Maiko, Viscountess Rothermere is a Japanese-born Korean, widow of Vere, third Viscount, who died in 1998, and whose family own Associated Newspapers, one of the largest newspaper publishers in the UK.
Lady Rothermere is a keen supporter of classical music and the arts. She is a Trustee of the Philharmonia Orchestra and was Chairman of the Philharmonia’s Endowment Fund Appeal. 
Lady Rothermere has recently been invited to become a Trustee of The Prince’s Drawing School, one of HRH The Prince of Wales’s personal educational charities. She is also Chairman of The Prince’s Drawing School’s Scholarship Endowment Appeal.
Lady Rothermere supports many humanitarian causes, especially those helping ‘outcasts’ in society. Hansen’s Disease (leprosy) and the prevention of blindness – with an emphasis on giving sufferers their dignity and quality of life - are of particular concern to Lady Rothermere.
Currently, Lady Rothermere is helping to raise funds to open a hospital in Ghana for spinal disorders. Her friend and top New York spinal surgeon,
Dr Oheneba Boachie-Adjei, is heading the campaign. Dr Boachie-Adjei is Founder and President of the Foundation of Orthopedics and Complex Spine (FOCOS) based in the USA.
