Christmas 2008 A new gift certificate is available from this year, just in time for Christmas! The Livelihood Starter Kit Certificate will support the work of the Alola Foundation in developing opportunities for women to achieve economic independence. More information on this, and other gifts that are available can be found here. May 2008 Atauro Kindergartens opened. For an article about the Kindergartens and a web clip, please follow this link. July 2007 Friends of the Alola Foundation has been awarded funds by the Stratreal Foundation to set up a project to build or rennovate new buildings for 5 fishing villages on the island of Atauro. We will work to provide: •New and buildings which provide a safe learning environment
•Sustainable education resources
•Professional training and support for teachers
•Programmes to support parent organisations and through them to develop parent’s understanding of their children’s early learning needs

Christmas 2006 In December 2006, we launched a programme in the UK mirroring a scheme which is already running successfully in Australia. This involves selling Gift Certificates which provide a Maternity Pack for a new mother or a scholarship for a year for a child in East Timor. This year will only be a pilot, mainly promoted amongst our trustees and friends, with a view to putting in place a nationwide campaign for next Christmas. These Gift Certificates will be made available throughout the year.
